Carefully unpack your Ledger device. Check that the box contains your device, USB cable, recovery sheets, and getting started leaflet. Ensure the device is genuine and the packaging hasn't been tampered with.
Security tip: Never use a device if the packaging appears damaged or if someone else has had access to it.
Download and install Ledger Live, the official desktop application that lets you manage your cryptocurrencies. Available for Windows, Mac, and Linux. Always download from the official Ledger website.
Connect your Ledger device to your computer using the provided USB cable. Press both buttons on your device to turn it on. Follow the on-screen instructions to begin the setup process.
Choose a PIN code between 4-8 digits. This PIN protects access to your device. Never use simple combinations like 1234. Remember this PIN as you'll need it each time you use your device.
Your device will display 24 words - your recovery phrase. Write these words down in the exact order on the provided recovery sheets. This phrase is the only way to recover your funds if you lose your device.
Critical: Never share your recovery phrase with anyone. Store it securely offline. Ledger will never ask for your recovery phrase.
Use Ledger Live to install apps for the cryptocurrencies you want to manage. Each cryptocurrency requires its own app on your device. Popular options include Bitcoin, Ethereum, and other major cryptocurrencies.
